James Blackshaw - The Cloud Of Unknowing

Stunningly beautiful & ethereal pieces for 12-string acoustic guitar. The title track is one of the best things I've ever heard. Definitely give it a listen if you're a fan of stuff like John Fahey or Jack Rose or Sir Richard Bishop or etc. etc. but chances are if you like them, you've probably already heard this. Whatever.

Absolutely monumental work. Each piece is sung in Polish from texts dealing with seperation, the most startling and heartbreaking of them being the second piece, which was found scribbled on the wall in a concentration camp by a Polish Jewish mother as a parting message to her son.

Say what you will about the movie, but the soundtrack is still the best stand-alone OST that I've ever heard. Ranges from brooding ambient, soaring post-rock, to minimalist Erik Satie/Philip Glass-ish piano pieces.

Mindfuck of an album. Slowly transforming minimalist music. It relies on the same motif for its entire 58 minute duration, but it's way more accessible than that sounds. Manages to remain entertaining throughout and there are always new impressive melodies popping up. I wish I was technically savvy enough to be able to admire all the experimentation with "rhythmic patterns" and "tonal cycles" but frankly you don't need to know any of that shit to think this is awesome.

Morton Feldman - Rothko Chapel

Rothko Chapel is probably American composer Morton Feldman's most well-known and finest work. In its five movements, Feldman creates an astoundingly haunting, surreal atmosphere from scatterbrained (probably just beyond my comprehension) dissonant composition and arrangement. Oh yeah, and Why Patterns? is on here but I ain't even heared it. It's probably good. I might listen to it some day when I have no access to last.fm cause how am I supposed to get scrobbles when im listenin to a 30 min track how bout fuck that shit radiohead and thrice would never be pushed outta my charts
